My name is Jeremy Keith.
I was born in London in 1971. I don't have many memories of London, though. My family moved to Ireland when I was three years old, and I grew up in the harbour town of Cobh (pronounced "cove").
After leaving school, I spent a year and a half at Art College before dropping out to play music and travel (the one financing the other).
For a while I divided my time between living on the west coast of Ireland, travelling around mainland Europe and even making a brief foray to Canada. I eventually settled down in the town of Freiburg in southern Germany.
I was still playing music, and in a way, it was music that prompted my career as a web developer. I was playing in a band and we wanted our own web site. I sat down to learn HTML. I found it frustrating and rewarding — but most of all, fun.
After that, there was no stopping me …and I found a lot of those design skills I had learned in Art College coming in handy after all.
I've been making websites for many years now and I enjoy it more than ever. In that time, I've moved from southern Germany to southern England (Brighton) and picked up a few new programming languages along the way.
In 2005 I wrote a book about DOM Scripting. Since then, I've been doing quite a bit of writing, teaching and speaking. I really enjoy speaking about geeky subjects to a captive audience. I especially like it when the speaking takes place in some faraway location — I still love travelling.
These days, I play in a band called Salter Cane. I play bouzouki, an instrument I picked up through my love of Irish traditional music. I also love good food.
I'm married to Jessica. We met back in Germany but she's from the States originally.
And if that hasn't answered your questions, you can always write to me for more juicy details.
