Hey John, quick question: what was the time period for deregistering service workers (and emptying caches) before this change to 7 days?

(I have it in the back of my mind it was something like 30 days without engagement—is that right?)

For the purposes of ITP, previously, classified domains without user interaction the last 30 days of Safari use had their website data delete, including SW registrations. But maybe you’re thinking of some other expiry mechanism?

Jeremy Keith

What does “classified domains” mean in this context? Does the 7 day (previously 30 day) time period not apply across the board to any domain that registers a service worker?

John Wilander

The 7 days is across the board, yes. But if the 30 days you mention refer to ITP’s logic, that website data deletion includes cookies and applies to domains that ITP has classified as having cross-site tracking capabilities.

Jeremy Keith

I’m trying to understand what the expiration time was for service workers across the board before this change to 7 days. Was it 30 days? 90? Indefinite?
