(1) Both people in the video are Googlers only. Why not get someone from FireFox, Safari, Brave teams to discuss the potential objections? If Google is in a dominant position, it takes gestures like those to inspire trust. (2) No discussion on making it configurable / opt-out.

Jake, like I said, I really like your proposal. But the way you’re framing it here on Twitter (as opposed to in your video) is reductive and polarising.
(Here we are arguing when we agree about the bit that matters—the proposal.)
(1) we tried having guests in the show for a few episodes and it wasn’t well received. So yeah, it isn’t the format of the show. (2) You are correct, that was not discussed.
Many users & developers use Chrome, because they’re forced to, not because they choose to. Just like it was for Internet Explorer. It’s up to Google to figure out a format that works and inspires more trust. Until then, this kind of knee-jerk outrage should not be surprising. 🙂
