I was just wondering how a hashtag ever personally benefited me. I mean, Twitter never sent me a check for the metadata labor.

I can’t remember the last time I saw somebody using a hashtag on Twitter.
It’s like when the bees started disappearing. There’s some kind of hashtag collapse disorder.
I think generally people similar to who you follow use twitter for conversation where hashtags do not really play a role, where as businesses and brands looking for exposure are more likely to use a hashtag for discovery.
you have a different twitter experience then; I see a lot, especially around specialist topics, like football or TV watches

Yes, it’s like a de-metcalfization of Twitter hashtags. 😄 I actually liked and used them a lot from a discoverability standpoint in the early years of Twitter – until the social media marketers opened their floodgates…
