As a member of The Long Now Foundation, I am absolutely disgusted by this. The environmental disaster of this “NFT-based crowdfunding model” is the antithesis of long-term thinking.
Jeremy, you were one of my first Twitter follows. I’ve always had tremendous respect for you. And on NFTs, may I suggest you dig deeper? The tech is early but most NFT-supporting blockchains have very low ecological impact or are heading that way (in the case of Ethereum)
Bitcoin, which is the most ecologically questionable, has no support for NFTs. And Ethereum will move away from mining in a matter of months. Even before that, much Ethereum activity will move off-chain into layer 2s. NFTs as a technology have massive transformational potential
Thank you for saying this. And I’m glad most other responses echo the sentiment.
NFTs are the idea if the oil of a snake. They have exactly two uses, grift, and money laundering.
How many years have people been claiming that Ethereum is just Inthe verge of fixing their POW problem?
