I ♥️ RSS
September 28th, 2021
I wonder what would’ve happened if Google had used AMP to revive RSS rather than, y’know, breaking the internet. RSS readers have always had to make the choice between rendering the feed data vs the source page, and AMP could’ve been a good middle ground.
Still loving @feedly ❤️ (best RSS reader)
adoro rss. lembrando que podes adicionar o blog minivelocentral.com/feeds/posts/de…
Oh yes, I am currently rebuilding my #RSS reading habits, too. The one bummer is that many articles nowadays are behind pay walls, and that RSS readers can‘t retrieve the texts from those. But the rest is pure joy, yes!
#rss the past AND the future of the web!
So many times, I’ve replaced a convoluted programming solution with something much simpler thanks to RSS.
The web we could have had. I miss RSS so much, it was a much much much superior tech to what we ended up with for aggregation. Why? You were in the driving seat and nothing got thrown in your face. No “pushed discovery” bullshit.
Got a favourite? Tried feedly and it’s ok, but I think I want it simpler
Long live really simple syndication!
Yea so glorious that effectively nobody uses it anymore, other than podcasts that also could just use a JSON API (which would probably make podcasts better)
I’ll always wonder what the modern internet would look like if Google hadn’t killed Reader 😥
It’s that time of year when everyone gets nostalgic for RSS feeds so here’s my reminder that @AMPhtml is a better syndication format!
So much “ooh shiny!” When RSS was doing a fine job for its use cases.
I used to use RSS until Google killed it, sure websites still have feeds and some people use it - I know nobody personally that still does.
Sub 40% on a highly technical subset of twitter is pretty clear to me.
Actually more people replied “yes” than I thought. It’s a niche, but one that is growing (judging by anecdotal evidence). And which of the tech Twitter topics isn’t niche? It says nothing about long-term viability.
More examples of healthy niche technologies: PHP, LaTeX.
Oh RSS is viable. But it isn’t “glorious”. It’s just a simple XML format that is ok at what it tries to do.
“Glorious” is certainly subjective, but I still feel excited whenever I open my feed reader. 😀 For me, it’s just an incredibly convenient way of consuming news (with very few ads, popups, pic-in-pic videos, …) w/o missing anything. Note that JSON feed is gaining in popularity.
Yes. Long time fan of @feedly .
Opening everything in reader mode is similar.
I use it every single day 🙂
This. And it’s still supported by pretty much every single CMS or website out there.
