You could test for support like this:

var testButton = document.createElement("button");
testButton.setAttribute("type","share");
if (testButton.type != "share") {
// polyfill
}

<button type="share" value="title,text">?

For non-supporting browsers, it’s a regular button and needs polyfilling, no different to the situation with the JavaScript API. But if supported, no JS needed?

I am really, really disappointed by the back-tracking here.

I thought your proposal was brilliant because it didn’t involve hiding anything.

Hiding by default?

Disgusting.

When I was a kid, I thought the word “character” started with a “chuh” sound (’cause, y’know that is how it’s spelled).

I also pronounced the “b” in the “subtle” …which wasn’t.

Reading a lot just leads to embarrassment.

Seeing as Safari shows all the computed properties correctly, I’m guessing it was something that was introduced after the Webkit/Blink fork?

But weirdly, Firefox is showing the same behaviour as Chrome.

Seeing a spitfire fly over the neighbourhood rooftops of Brighton felt like something from a Christopher Priest book—a machine of The Adjacent breaking into the world of today.

Wow! Seeing a spitfire in flight is quite something! What a beauty!
